ILST (Introduction to Leadership Training) is a yearly event for troops. During this campout, scouts learned a combination of leadership skills and basic knowledge of outdoor scouting skills. There was a test to assess the information that everyone learned. For scouts that passed the assessment, they earned the Trained Patch. During this campout, parents cooked amazing food for scouts, and there was a white elephant gift exchange. Everyone had a great time together!
Bearpaw is an annual winter campout that takes place at a variety of locations. This year we had the campout at Sugar Pine State Park. The scenery was amazing. This campout contrasted with normal campouts by displaying extremely cold weather, and it is very lucky that there was adequate snow such that everyone was able to build snow caves and sleep in them. This was the first Bearpaw since the pandemic, so it provided a unique experience and challenge for many scouts and parents alike.
The Chinese New Year Celebration is typically an annual 2 hour long day event celebrating Chinese New Year. During the event, scouts watched an amazing lion dance, did a riddle competition, and enjoyed traditional Chinese food and snacks that were provided by adult volunteers. Lastly, they received lucky red envelopes from the scoutmaster.
The March Geocaching campout was a fun activity campout held at Del Valle Regional park. During this event, everyone hiked about 5 miles and found many geocaches during the hike. After the hike, scouts had some free time and played Capture the Flag and Chaos Tag. Overall, it was a very fun campout.
For 2022 Q1, 16 scouts advanced to the next rank and 2 of those scouts advanced 2 ranks in 1 quarter. Way to go scouts!
This event hosted by KFF was a fun service project where many different Boy Scout troops came together to make booths for the entertainment of younger children while raising money. Our scouts made one of these booths and helped clean up the event, racking up many service hours.
This was our zipline activity-based campout. For a lot of scouts, this was their first time doing ziplining. Excited to be able to fly among the redwood trees and speed through the air, the sights and the thrill were amazing. Later, to pass the time, we did activities such as frisbee, tag, and an Emergency Preparedness car crash simulation! Everyone had the time of their lives.
Scout-O-Rama was a day event from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm where troops all across the Bay Area gathered to share their scouting spirit. Each troop would set up a booth that ran fun activities; scouts arrived at 8:00 am to set up the booth. Our troop hosted a booth running the game “Kim’s Game" and the scouts represented our troop wonderfully.
The Mother’s Day Celebration is typically an outdoor picnic day event to respect and honor the importance and contribution of mothers to their families. The scouts took photos with their mothers and presented them each a rose of love and appreciation.
This is the first kayaking campout since the pandemic. Scouts enjoyed kayaking together with a lot of wild animals around us. It was an out-and-back adventure, everyone kayaked about 5 miles, good job!
For 2022 Q2, seven scouts advanced to the next level. Five scouts got the Den Chief Service Award.
One patrol won the National Honor Patrol Award. Six ASMs swore in. Good job Scouts and Parents!
The Father's Day Celebration is held to honor the importance and contribution each father has to their family. This year, it was an overnight campout at Joseph Grant Park. Scouts and Parents hiked along Hotel Loop Trail, had a watermelon eating contest, and did scout and father bonding games.
35 scouts joined this seven-day and night summer camp at Camp Hi-Sierra. We were one of the largest groups there. It was a great chance to learn new scouting skills, bond with fellow scouts, and earn merit badges and requirements. Overall, everyone had lots of fun.
Scouts and parents enjoyed a fun-filled weekend on the thrilling and exhilarating rapids on the South Fork of the American River, where California’s first gold was discovered setting off the Gold Rush. With a span of 15 miles, 34 families had a great time in this Class II/III river.

The Florida Keys are a coral cay archipelago off the southern coast of Florida, forming the southernmost part of the continental United States (Wikipedia). Two crews attended this High Adventure, formed by 12 scouts and 5 AICs. Scouts had many fun adventures and activities; they spent almost an entire week on a boat, even sleeping on its cramped decks!
The Summit High Adventure program encourages scouts to grow in competence, confidence, caring, and awareness by providing experiences that require scouts to move out of their comfort zones and “stretch” themselves. Every day, scouts engaged in fun activities such as BMX, skateboarding, mountain biking, ziplining, canopy tours, having a hunter's education, climbing, and shooting sports.
Beach campout was a themed campout. Families had a relaxing getaway to enjoy the sand, sea, and hot sun. Everyone had lots of fun together.
Family camp is an annual campout where scouts have fun with their families. For this campout, we had many activities and had fun with the Troop 453 family, including Pack453 4th graders and 5th graders. Thanks to all the parents for preparing the delicious feast!
Polaris, our District, in partnering with the Rotary Club of Cupertino, created a fun-filled event where many troops around the area all participated and racked up many many service hours! Our booths this time consisted of Kim's Game, Connect 4, and Pole Ball Toss.
Popcorn sales is an annual fundraising program to help Troops and Scouts raise money for recharters, activities, and badges. It was held at storefronts across San Jose, Cupertino, and Sunnyvale, in addition to door to door and online sales. This greatly helped Scouts learn goal setting, salesmanship, the value of money, and hard work. In total, we had over $5500 in sales; keep it up, scouts!
CASA Camporee is an annual 3-day, 2-night camping event where all troops part of the Chinese American Scouting Association compete against each other in a test of scouting skills, Chinese heritage, and more. Such scouting skills included first aid scenarios, knot tying, and firebuilding. Chinese heritage included papercutting and Dragon Tag. Other competitions included volleyball, cooking, and campfire auditions.
Cooking Campout is an activity-themed campout that happens almost every year. Scouts hiked up Mount Diablo and had a cooking competition where they made an authentic Pochero stew. Adults as judges enjoyed each and every patrol's tasty food, and everyone had lots of fun.
Twelve brave scouts hiked and camped in the rain. The scouts planned to do something different, but the rain was unexpected. Now, we will never know what the mystery was.
For 2022 Q3, a record-breaking 19 total scouts advanced to the next rank! Two scouts got the Den Chief Service Award. One patrol won the National Honor Patrol Award. The committee and subcommittee chair, scoutmaster, and ASMs all swore in for a fresh new year in 2023. The scoutmaster also awarded the twelve brave scouts on their courage in undertaking their mysterious adventure. Fantastic job, scouts and parents!
